I’ve always struggled with the nagging desire to know “who am I, what is my purpose in life and why am I here?  I’ve had a variety of jobs but have never really been “happy” at what I did nor at what I had accomplished. I’ve always felt there was something missing, there was something more!

I have gone back in time, not only mentally but emotionally to research my ancestors “paths”, to collect records and their history, to know more.

According to Thesaurus.com the word “historian” also means a:  “student of history, annalist, chronicler, historiographer, professor, teacher, writer”. I finally know what I am supposed to do and what truly makes me happy and that is, to be the “historian” for my family!

What started out as a hobby almost 40 years ago, now is my passion and at times my obsession.  At least, I’m sure that is what my family thinks! Through the years, I have met a lot of really nice people, found new unknown relatives and made many new friends.

To everyone who has shared their research, photos, and time, I am eternally grateful, for without your contributions, I would not be where I am today.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I believe in God and family above all else. I’m a sixty plus woman who still thinks she is 29 and can do anything physically, but knows better! I’m married to a wonderful guy who supports most of my whims and hobbies and I love him dearly!

We live in a small community,  nestled in the rolling hills of southeastern Iowa along the Missouri border. We share our home with our five cats, Lil Bit, Kallie, Smokey, Ebby, and Dusty. I have two wonderful children that have blessed me with 3 fantastic grandchildren and one great-granddaughter!  Love them all and wish we could visit more often.

I’m retired and actively pursuing my interests and hobbies which are many and varied. My primary interest is genealogy and preserving family history for others and myself. I became interested in family research in the mid 1970’s and haven’t stopped yet!

My other interests are gardening and reading. I enjoy reading anything by Steve Hamilton, James Rollins and Catherine Coulter and Patricia Cornwell, just to name a few. My music tastes are pretty varied and too many to list. I love watching and listening to the birds. Just sitting and watching the world go by and enjoying what life has to offer!

Feel free to leave a comment, ask a question or found something of interest and of course, let me know if we’re related! I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Sounds like we have loads in common except surnames! Same generation, same likes and dislikes, started genealogy about the same time, etc. etc.! All the best! 😀

  2. I also think we have a lot in common. I actually started when I was about 10 years old, but that was mostly rewriting my grandmothers notes. But genealogy and family history has been a life-long love affair. Looking forward to retirement and spending all my time on genealogy.

  3. I hope you will be able soon to resume your excellent blog. Best wishes.
